Choosing Between a Vapor Barrier, Encapsulation and a Dehumidifier
These three services are related but not the same, and not every crawlspace needs all of them. A dry crawlspace with a good liner already in place may need only a small fix, and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need. Here is how they differ.
- Vapor Barrier Installation: heavy-duty sheeting over the ground so soil moisture cannot rise into the space.
- Crawlspace Encapsulation: the liner runs up the walls, seams are sealed, and the vents are closed off so outside air stops flowing through.
- Crawlspace Dehumidifier Installation: removes moisture from the air that remains and, in a properly sealed space, keeps humidity in a range where mold and rot are far less likely.
