Attic Insulation
Blown-in fiberglass attic insulation, added to the depth your home needs, to even out hot and cold rooms and cut wasted heating and cooling.
Half of Kernersville's homes were built in 1995 or later. That's the median year in the Census Bureau's 2020 to 2024 survey, and the 2000s alone account for about one home in five. So the typical Kernersville attic already has insulation in it, and the usual job is a top-up rather than a tear-out.
We install blown-in fiberglass, laid to one even depth from the center of the attic to the eaves. The ceiling's air leaks are sealed before any of it goes in, because a new layer would bury them for good.
Send the square footage of the attic or the house, or the address so we can measure the footprint, and we'll put our advice and the price in writing. Some attics need nothing, and you'll hear that too.

Blown-in fiberglass attic insulation, added to the depth your home needs, to even out hot and cold rooms and cut wasted heating and cooling.
Old, wet, matted or animal-soiled attic insulation vacuumed out, so new insulation can go in on a clean, sealed attic floor.

Sealing the gaps between your rooms and the attic, and leaky ductwork, so the air you pay to heat and cool stays inside.
Insulation blown into the closed walls of an existing house, batts in open walls for additions, remodels and new builds, and garage walls and ceilings.
Insulation for the garage ceiling under a bonus room, the wall shared with the house and the garage attic, with air leaks sealed first.
Floor insulation under the house: wet or fallen insulation pulled out, new batts between the floor joists, plastic over the dirt and the floor leaks sealed.
Savings vary. Find out why in the seller's fact sheet on R-values. Higher R-values mean greater insulating power. In blown-in fiberglass, the attic insulation we install, ENERGY STAR's estimating figure puts R-38 at about 15 inches, R-49 at about 20 and R-60 at about 24; the coverage chart of the product used gives the exact installed thickness for each R-value.
Kernersville lies mostly in Forsyth County, with an edge in Guilford, and North Carolina's 2018 energy code lists both counties in climate zone 4. The map drawn for the 2021 national code, which ENERGY STAR's chart follows, moved them to zone 3. Either way, the state's minimum for the ceiling of a new house is R-38.
For existing homes, ENERGY STAR's zone 3 row reads R-49 over a bare attic floor and R-38 over 3 to 4 inches, and its zone 4 row reads R-60 and R-49. We'll talk through which line makes sense for your house. The estimate states the R-value we're aiming for, with the depth beside it, and the R-value guide has the whole chart.
A little over half of Kernersville's homes went up between 1990 and 2019. Loose-fill in those attics has had 10 to 30 years to settle, and the thin spots are easy to predict: along the eaves, where the roof pitch made it hard to reach, around the hatch, and along the trail someone wore walking to an air handler or a cable run.
A clean, dry layer stays and counts toward the target. We seal the gaps at light fixtures, wiring holes, the hatch and the tops of interior walls, set baffles at the soffit vents, and blow new fiberglass over the old until the eaves match the middle.
Plywood nailed straight to the ceiling joists squeezes whatever lies under it down to the height of the joists, and squeezed insulation insulates less. A deck like that can't be topped up from above. We bring the open attic around it to full depth and tell you how much of the floor the boards are covering.
To have storage and full depth in the same spot, the floor has to stand on a raised frame above the insulation. Building that platform is carpentry, which we don't do. The air sealing and the insulation under and around it are our part, and our guide to attic flooring and storage explains how the two trades fit together.
About one Kernersville home in twelve predates 1960, and a handful go back to the railroad boom that began in 1873. An attic that old usually holds a thin layer added long after the house was built, laid over a ceiling that was never sealed.
Before anything new goes in, knob-and-tube wiring, common until about 1930, goes to an electrician, since ENERGY STAR calls it a fire hazard under insulation. Fill that looks like small gray-brown or silver-gold pebbles may be vermiculite and is left alone until it has been tested. Then the leaks are closed, the big ones first, and the fiberglass goes on.
Taking insulation out is the exception in Kernersville, but it happens. A slow drip at a pipe boot on the roof, a bath fan blowing damp air into the attic instead of outside, or a family of mice can leave a layer that shouldn't be covered. The cause is stopped first. Roof leaks belong to a roofer and animals to a wildlife company, and we do neither.
Then we vacuum the ruined insulation out. Mouse-soiled attics are sanitized and deodorized, the bare ceiling is sealed, and fresh fiberglass is blown in. If only one corner is spoiled, only that corner goes on the estimate for attic insulation removal.
Send the square footage of the attic or the house, or just the address, plus roughly when the house was built and what's bothering you: a hot bonus room, a cold hallway, a stain on a ceiling. Most Kernersville attics can be priced from that. A few, such as a room over a garage, may need a special visit first.
The estimate spells out the target R-value and depth, the air sealing, any duct sealing and any removal, each on its own line, with the total. There are no prices on this page because the attic decides them: floor area, current depth, the leaks to close and whether anything has to come out. The cost guide shows how each one changes the number.

Ask the Town of Kernersville before work starts. The Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Inspections Division covers most of the county, but its own page leaves out Kernersville, along with High Point and King, so it isn't the office for a Kernersville address. The town can tell you which office handles permits there and whether an attic insulation job needs one.
Most of Kernersville is on Duke Energy Carolinas, but EnergyUnited serves homes nearby, so your bill is the place to check. It matters for programs. Duke offers a rebate for attic insulation with air sealing through contractors in its network, and Insulation Pros is an approved Duke Energy trade ally. When EnergyUnited's site was checked in October 2026, it listed energy tips but no insulation rebate.
Yes. The path to the unit and the space around it stay clear, so a technician can still reach it, and the equipment and its drain line are never buried. The duct joints we can reach are sealed, and the ceiling around the platform is sealed before the fiberglass goes down. Any repair to the unit itself, or a duct that has come apart, is work for a heating and cooling company.
Only if they're rated for it. ENERGY STAR's guidance keeps insulation 3 inches away from a recessed light unless the fixture is IC-rated, meaning it's built for insulation contact. The crew reads each fixture's label from the attic. A light without the rating keeps its clear space, and the ceiling around it is still sealed and filled to full depth.
Call or text between 8 and 5 on any day of the week, or use the contact form at any hour. Give us the attic's or the house's square footage, or the street so we can measure it, and the house's age. Most Kernersville attics are priced from that with no visit, the estimate costs you nothing, and there's no deadline on deciding.
