Attic insulation in Holden BeachCheck the roof first, then the insulation under any damaged spot. The National Weather Service says Hurricane Isaias made landfall right at Ocean Isle Beach on August 3, 2020. Two years earlier, it notes, Florence left mostly minor damage here to siding, shingles and trees. Even a few missing shingles can let wind-driven rain into the attic. Insulation that feels wet is, in ENERGY STAR's terms, the mark of a leaking roof, so the roofer goes first. Then we vacuum out the soaked insulation and blow in fresh.
Not by anything in the state's records. The town has no entry among Brunswick County's National Register listings, and the 2023 statewide roster of local preservation commissions lists none for the county. The county's 2010 architectural survey explains why the county's beaches kept so little old building: Hurricane Hazel in 1954 swept the barrier islands clean of most structures. Building here mostly came afterward, and this page's housing table puts most homes in town at 1970 or later.
