Insulation contractor serving HendersonvilleLaurel Park sits on Echo Mountain above Hendersonville and began as a resort, drawn up in 1909 around two lakes, a canal and curving streets of house lots. Summer homes followed through the 1910s and 1920s, until the land boom of that decade collapsed.
Laurel Park, in Henderson County, grew from 2,247 people in 2020 to 2,360 in 2025 (Census Bureau estimates), on 2.82 square miles.

A rail line nicknamed the Dummy Line ran from Hendersonville's Main Street out to Rainbow Lake from 1903 to 1912. The first summer homes went up in those years. The county's 1980 survey names a frame summer house of 1914 as one of the first built here. A National Register nomination says the same of a log house of 1912. Larger plans laid in 1924 ended in the bust, and the Fleetwood Hotel was never finished. Wiring run in those decades can turn out to be knob-and-tube, which ENERGY STAR rates a fire risk in contact with insulation. Before anything is blown in, an electrician sorts it out, and any run still in service stays bare of insulation.
About 35 percent of Laurel Park's homes predate 1970; if your joists show above the insulation, ENERGY STAR says to add more insulation.
Built from 1970 to 1989, about 40 percent of Laurel Park homes may hold settled fiberglass; check its depth against the joists.
Laurel Park's center sits about 2,360 feet above sea level, 3 miles from NOAA's Hendersonville 1 NE station, the best match for Laurel Park. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 4,170 heating and 900 cooling degree days a year, so at Laurel Park's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.
Laurel Park sits about 200 feet above the station, so expect slightly colder winters.
Some 64 percent of Laurel Park housing units are detached single-family houses.
Built from 1940 to 1969, 26 percent of Laurel Park homes often have little insulation.
About 45 percent of Laurel Park's housing units predate 1980; nearly all predate the state's 1978 insulation rule too.
In Laurel Park, about 44 percent of homes heat with electricity and about 51 percent with piped gas; forced air from either moves through ducts.
Air sealing comes first, as the EPA advises: wire and pipe holes, wall tops and soffits.
Duke Energy supplies Laurel Park's electricity. For gas, Laurel Park is in the Henderson County franchise of Enbridge Gas North Carolina, and about 51 percent of the town's homes heat with piped gas. Duke's free House Call fits many Laurel Park homes: about 44 percent heat with electricity.

In a Laurel Park attic, only wet, moldy or animal-soiled insulation is vacuumed out (ENERGY STAR's test), once the cause is fixed, and after mice that Laurel Park attic is sanitized and deodorized; dry, clean insulation stays.

Attic insulation in SaludaOnly if the chimney comes up through the attic. On the 1912 log house the stone chimney stands against an outside end wall, and the county survey describes a stone lodge here with its chimney on the front wall. Chimneys built like that never cross the attic floor. If yours does pass up through a ceiling, ENERGY STAR wants the opening around it covered with thin aluminum sheet set in high-temperature caulk. A short metal collar then keeps the insulation back. Masonry usually needs 2 inches of clearance.
Very likely not. Only one entry on the state's list falls inside this town: a log summer house of 1912, listed in 2010. There is no historic district. The 2023 state roster of preservation commissions shows none for this town among the three in the county. Under the State Historic Preservation Office's guidance, National Register status by itself puts no restriction on a private owner. An ordinary house here needs no historic sign-off before its attic is sealed and insulated.
It could: about 25 percent of Laurel Park's homes predate 1960. If a Laurel Park attic holds a pebble-like gray-brown or silver-gold fill, leave it undisturbed: the EPA says vermiculite may contain asbestos.
