Godwin Insulation FAQs
Does the Averasboro battlefield district reach any houses in Godwin?
No. The county's 2024 survey report places the March 1865 Battle of Averasboro north of Godwin and across the line into Harnett County. Both that report and the state's National Register list file the battlefield district, listed in 2001, as a vicinity listing, outside town limits. No listing falls inside the town, and the report found its own buildings largely unrecorded, with more fieldwork planned. Nothing on file, then, brings a historic review into your attic project.
Why is the old insulation in my Godwin attic dark in patches?
Those patches show where air leaks through. ENERGY STAR explains that insulation darkens where house air keeps moving through it and leaves its dust in the fibers. The gap underneath can be a hole for a wire or pipe, a ceiling light, or the edge of the attic hatch. We seal each one from above. The darkened insulation can stay once the leak under it is closed.
Does attic insulation in Godwin need a permit?
Godwin Town Hall can say whether Cumberland County Building Inspections & Permitting, the town itself or another office handles permits in Godwin; ask before work starts.
