Attic insulation in Fuquay-VarinaAngier was a farm at the end of a new lumber railroad in 1899, was surveyed into streets and lots within about a year, and was incorporated in 1901. The 2008 county survey still counted its early brick stores on South Broad Street among the good surviving examples in the county.

The county survey points to the brick stores on South Broad Street as what remains of early downtown Angier. As in the other Harnett towns, modest houses from Queen Anne to Craftsman grew up around the stores. The survey cites a side-gabled Craftsman house in Angier with brick porch posts and roof brackets. In an older house like that, gray or black streaks in the attic insulation mark a path where house air has been leaking up, ENERGY STAR explains. We seal the opening beneath. The insulation is usually fine to keep.
By the Census count on this page, most of Angier's homes went up from 1970 on, many in just the last few decades. If yours has a bedroom or bonus room over the garage, that floor sits over a space that is outside the home. Building America calls for air sealing that floor, then fitting the insulation snug to the subfloor above. The short side walls of that room deserve the same care. Garage insulation is a service we offer too.
Some 16 percent of Angier's homes predate 1970; if your joists show above the insulation, ENERGY STAR says to add more insulation.
From 1990 to 2009, about 35 percent of Angier homes were built to codes below ENERGY STAR's target; check their eaves, where ENERGY STAR says insulation is often thinnest.
Angier's center sits about 290 feet above sea level, 12 miles from NOAA's Garner station, the best match for Angier. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 3,640 heating and 1,340 cooling degree days a year, so at Angier's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.
Readings change over short distances around Angier: NOAA's Dunn 4 NW station, 13 miles away, averages about 2,910 heating degree days.
Some 74 percent of Angier housing units are detached single-family houses.
In 2010 or later, about 25 percent of Angier homes went up; check their air sealing as well as the depth.
About 30 percent of Angier's housing units predate 1980; nearly all predate the state's 1978 insulation rule too.
In Angier, 88 percent of homes heat with electricity; where that heat is forced air, ducts often run through the attic.
Air sealing comes first, as the EPA advises: wire and pipe holes, wall tops and soffits.
Duke Energy Progress supplies Angier's electricity. For gas, Angier is in the Harnett County franchise of Piedmont Natural Gas, whose mains may not reach every street in Angier. Duke's free House Call fits many Angier homes: 88 percent heat with electricity.

In an Angier attic, only wet, moldy or animal-soiled insulation is vacuumed out (ENERGY STAR's test), once the cause is fixed, and after mice that Angier attic is sanitized and deodorized; dry, clean insulation stays.

Attic insulation in Holly SpringsNo. The Williams Grove School is the town's one listing. It is a one-room school from the early 1890s that stood outside Angier and was moved into a town park in 1975. There is no historic district in town, and the state's 2023 roster shows no local commission anywhere in Harnett County. For an attic, that means no historic approval to think about.
Only the ones built for it, marked IC for insulation contact. Other cans need 3 inches of open space on every side, ENERGY STAR says. Recessed lights are also on its list of common air leaks into the attic. We find out what kind each fixture is before blowing any insulation. Where the type is unclear, an electrician can confirm it.
