Attic insulation in Fair BluffNothing on the state lists says so. The one National Register property in the area is the Williams-Powell House, a two-story frame plantation house from about 1830, listed in 1984. It stands outside the town limits, and its listing reaches no other property. When the State Historic Preservation Office drew up its 2023 roster of preservation commissions, Robeson had none. That leaves attic work on a home in town free of any historic approval.
Never right against it. ENERGY STAR puts the usual clearance at 2 inches from a masonry chimney and 1 inch from a metal flue. Where the chimney comes up through the ceiling, the gap is covered with thin aluminum flashing, sealed with high-temperature caulk. Next comes a sheet-metal dam that keeps loose fill a safe distance off the brick. The town was incorporated in 1903, and a house from its first decades could have a chimney rising inside its walls, and that opening is among the first things we check.
