Boardman Insulation FAQs

Are any of the Butters Lumber Company houses left in Boardman?

The record does not say. The 1998 county survey describes the lumber town's well-equipped Colonial style homes. But the only piece of the operation it recorded was the company office safe, standing alone in a field. The survey called it all that was left of the largest lumber mill in the county. So if your house is old, what sits in its attic sets the work, not the town's history, and the crew checks that with you before starting.

What do dark streaks in old attic insulation mean?

They mark air leaks. Dirty-looking insulation shows where air from the rooms below has been moving through it, ENERGY STAR explains, often around wiring holes, plumbing pipes or light fixtures in the ceiling. We seal those openings from the attic side. The streaked insulation is usually fine to keep once the leaks behind it are closed.

Does attic insulation in Boardman need a permit?

Boardman Town Hall can say whether Columbus County Building Inspections, the town itself or another office handles permits in Boardman; ask before work starts.
