George W. Wall built his Queen Anne house in 1896, most likely with lumber from the family company. Its nomination describes a deck-on-hip main roof with cross-gables, a two-story rear wing under its own gable roof, and an enclosed stair up to an unfinished attic. Then came changes: a bathroom behind the kitchen in 1908, a larger dining room in 1916 and an enclosed sunroom in 1973. A house that has grown in stages like this can have a separate attic space over each part, at a different height, and some of them have no easy way in. We find every roof section, measure what lies over each piece of ceiling, and spread the new insulation evenly across all of it.
About 15 percent of Wallburg's homes predate 1970; if your joists show above the insulation, ENERGY STAR says to add more insulation.
Wallburg's center sits about 920 feet above sea level, 10 miles from NOAA's High Point station, the best match for Wallburg. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 3,120 heating and 1,710 cooling degree days a year, so at Wallburg's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.
Readings change over short distances around Wallburg: NOAA's Winston-Salem Reynolds Airport station, 10 miles away, averages about 3,500 heating degree days.

Built from 1940 to 1969, before the state's 1978 insulation rule, about 15 percent of Wallburg homes often have little insulation.

Insulation contractor serving High PointNo. Davidson County has two local preservation commissions on the state's 2023 roster, and neither is for Wallburg. The town's one National Register listing is the Wall House, a single property. Listing by itself does not limit a private owner spending private money on a house, according to the state preservation office. So no historic review stands between a Wallburg homeowner and attic work.
Two things above all, if your house has them. The town has opened land to planned housing since it incorporated, and its history records rezonings for that in 2006 and 2007. Recessed ceiling lights are the first: ENERGY STAR says insulation stays 3 inches from any fixture not rated IC for insulation contact. A room over the garage is the second. Building America advises sealing and insulating the floor between that room and the garage, and its knee walls are sealed too.
