Attic insulation in AutryvilleStedman, on Highway 24 east of Fayetteville, began as Blockersville, shortened to Blockers once it had a stagecoach station and a post office. It took its present name after the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad came through, and in 1913 it was incorporated as a town one mile square.

Census Bureau estimates for Stedman, 2020 to 2024 (± margin of error).
Some 17 percent of Stedman's homes predate 1970; if your joists show above the insulation, ENERGY STAR says to add more insulation.
From 1990 to 2009, about 35 percent of Stedman homes were built to codes below ENERGY STAR's target; check their eaves, where ENERGY STAR says insulation is often thinnest.
Stedman's center sits about 130 feet above sea level, 10 miles from NOAA's Fayetteville PWC station, the best match for Stedman. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 2,970 heating and 1,890 cooling degree days a year, so at Stedman's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.
Some 95 percent of Stedman housing units are detached single-family houses.
In 2010 or later, about 30 percent of Stedman homes went up; check their air sealing as well as the depth.
About 28 percent of Stedman's housing units predate 1980; nearly all predate the state's 1978 insulation rule too.

Air sealing comes first, as the EPA advises: wire and pipe holes, wall tops and soffits.

Attic insulation in SalemburgNot a listed one. In 2001 the state found a Stedman Historic District, around Front and Euclid Streets, eligible for the National Register, yet the register list shows no listing in town. The Maxwell House is listed, but under the town's vicinity, outside the limits. Even a listing would not tie an owner's hands on privately paid work, and the 2023 state list names no local preservation commission here. A house in that older core near Front Street still has its wiring looked over before insulation goes in, since ENERGY STAR flags pre-1930 wiring as a fire risk under insulation.
Only where the fixture is marked IC, meaning it is rated for insulation contact. Judging by this page's housing figures, the bulk of the homes date from 1970 onward, and if your ceilings have cans, each one is looked at from above. ENERGY STAR says cans without that rating need 3 inches of clear space around them, so the fill is held back. It also lists recessed lights among the usual leaks into an attic, so the fixtures are sealed before the new layer goes on.
Stedman Town Hall can say whether Cumberland County Building Inspections & Permitting, the town itself or another office handles permits in Stedman; ask before work starts.
