The Local Climate
Mesic's center sits near sea level, 11 miles from NOAA's Bayboro 3 SW station, the best match for Mesic. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 2,820 heating and 1,700 cooling degree days a year, so at Mesic's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.

Mesic Insulation FAQs
This only became a town in 1971. Does that mean the houses here are newer?
Not necessarily. The county's 2004 land use plan names the area around this town and Vandemere as one of three spots where repeat flood losses cluster. It adds that these communities hold some of the county's older housing. A charter date says little about the age of the house on your lot. Before any insulation goes in, we check whether the wiring is old enough to be knob-and-tube, the pre-1930 type ENERGY STAR warns about. We also look for damp spots that betray a roof leak.
Is anything in Mesic on the National Register, and does that matter for my attic?
Nothing is listed, and that leaves your attic free of historic review. Among the state preservation office's Pamlico County entries, none sits in Mesic. The office's 2023 commission roster names no local commission in the county either. The house itself decides the work: how it was framed and what earlier owners added overhead.
Does attic insulation in Mesic need a permit?
Mesic Town Hall can say whether Pamlico County Inspections Department, the town itself or another office handles permits in Mesic; ask before work starts.
