Built from 1940 to 1969, about 40 percent of Bailey homes often have little insulation.
The Local Climate
Bailey's center sits about 220 feet above sea level, 11 miles from NOAA's Wilson 3 SW station, the best match for Bailey. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 3,060 heating and 1,840 cooling degree days a year, so at Bailey's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.

About 85 percent of Bailey housing units are detached single-family houses. With about 240 housing units in Bailey, read the figures as rough proportions.

Bailey Insulation FAQs
Is anything in Bailey on the National Register of Historic Places?
Nothing inside the town limits, as far as the records go. The state's register list files Morgan School, a Rosenwald school, under this town, but its 2006 nomination puts it at a rural crossroads north of town, toward Spring Hope. In town, the Country Doctor Museum went on the state's Study List in 1971 and the downtown commercial district in 2019. Neither entry is a National Register listing. No preservation commission for the town appears on the state's 2023 roster either. So no historic rules apply to attic work in town.
Does old wiring matter before insulating an early Bailey house?
Yes, and it is the first thing looked at. The town was incorporated in 1908, so a house from its first two decades went up before 1930. ENERGY STAR ties wiring of that age to the knob-and-tube system and warns that it is a fire hazard buried in insulation. An electrician decides whether any old run in the attic is still in service and what has to change. Only after that do we seal the ceiling and blow in insulation, keeping clear of anything still live.
Does attic insulation in Bailey need a permit?
Bailey Town Hall can say whether Nash County Building Inspections, the town itself or another office handles permits in Bailey; ask before work starts.
