Attic insulation in LaskerWoodland began as a Quaker farming community in eastern Northampton County and became the county's manufacturing and banking center after the Seaboard Air Line reached it in 1887 and 1888. Its older streets keep frame houses of the late 1800s, several trimmed by a local Quaker builder.
Woodland, in Northampton County, fell from 556 people in 2020 to 520 in 2025 (Census Bureau estimates), on 1.25 square miles. That makes Woodland the fifth-largest town in Northampton County.
Woodland has about 330 housing units, 3 percent of Northampton County's.

The county's 2010 survey describes a late 1800s triple-A I-house in town with a rear wing, several later additions, and bathrooms put in shed-roof rooms sometime between the 1920s and the 1950s. It adds that houses of this kind across the county often carried a full-width shed along the back. Every one of those roof sections can cover a separate pocket of attic. Each may open from a different hatch, or from none, and the insulation in each may be deep, thin or missing. We open and measure them one by one. ENERGY STAR wants insulation spread evenly with no low spots, and a low back shed is a likely place for them.
If the joists show above the insulation in a Woodland attic, ENERGY STAR says to add more insulation.
Woodland's center sits about 70 feet above sea level, 11 miles from NOAA's Murfreesboro station, the best match for Woodland. The station's 1991 to 2020 normals average about 3,720 heating and 1,390 cooling degree days a year, so at Woodland's station, heating needs outweigh cooling.
Readings change over short distances around Woodland: NOAA's Lewiston station, 14 miles away, averages about 3,140 heating degree days.
With about 330 housing units in Woodland, read the figures as rough proportions.
Built from 1970 to 1989, about 20 percent of Woodland homes may hold settled fiberglass; check its depth against the joists. From 1990 to 2009, about 10 percent of Woodland homes were built to codes below ENERGY STAR's target; check their eaves, where ENERGY STAR says insulation is often thinnest.
In Rich Square, the nearest town to Woodland with solid figures, about 73 percent of homes heat with electricity.
Air sealing comes first, as the EPA advises: wire and pipe holes, wall tops and soffits.

In a Woodland attic, only wet, moldy or animal-soiled insulation is vacuumed out (ENERGY STAR's test), once the cause is fixed, and after mice that Woodland attic is sanitized and deodorized; dry, clean insulation stays.

Attic insulation in RoxobelProbably not. The state's National Register list has a single property in town, the Woodland-Olney School, built in 1928 and 1929. No historic district takes in the houses here, and a 2023 county-by-county list of commission staff from the same office has no entry for Northampton. A listing alone would not tie your hands anyway: for owners using their own money, the office explains, National Register status comes with no strings.
Never touching. The county survey lists this town among those with intact Queen Anne houses of the 1880s and 1890s. It describes that style with tall chimneys set inside the house, not on the end walls. Where one rises through your attic floor, ENERGY STAR advises sealing the gap around the brick with light aluminum and a heat-rated caulk. Foam stays away from chimneys entirely. A sheet-metal collar keeps loose fill back from the masonry by the 2 inches codes generally expect.
