Askewville Insulation FAQs
The 2011 tornado tore through Askewville. Could it have left hidden damage in my attic?
It could, if the roof was struck. On April 16, 2011, a tornado rated EF3 touched down about a mile south of town. NOAA's storm record says numerous buildings and several mobile homes on the east side were badly damaged or destroyed. Look in the attic for stains, wet patches and daylight through the roof boards. ENERGY STAR says wet insulation points to a roof leak. The roof comes first. After it is fixed, we take out the soaked material and blow in fresh.
Is my Askewville house on any historic register?
No, by the state's own lists. Nothing in or near this town appears among the National Register listings kept by the State Historic Preservation Office. Its 2023 directory names no local preservation commission for the county either. That leaves attic work here free of any historic review. An older house still gets its wiring, chimney gaps and roof checked before insulation goes in.
Does attic insulation in Askewville need a permit?
Askewville Town Hall can say whether Bertie County Planning & Inspections, the town itself or another office handles permits in Askewville; ask before work starts.
